1. Who are Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs)?

NRKs or Non-Resident Keralites are those Malayalees who live or work outside Kerala, either in other States in India, or in a foreign country. NRKs living outside India may be either Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO). While NRIs are Indian Citizens but ordinarily residing in a foreign country who carry an Indian Passport, the PIO & OCI are Foreign Citizens of Indian Origin who do not have Indian Passports. Instead of passports they have PIO/OCI cards by the Government of India. In respect of facilities available in economic, financial and educational field, PIO/OCI are considered the equivalent of an NRI. Both NRIs or PIO/OCI card holders can visit India, own properties, access Indian courts to establish their rights.

4. Do I have to travel back to India to file a case in Indian courts?

No, you need not travel back to India in most of the occasions. You can give Power of Attorney to a trustworthy person from your friends or family circle. This power of attorney should be attested by the Indian Embassy/Consulate in the respective countries where the litigant resides. The Power of Attorney holder can file the case, if required. However in matrimonial cases it is recommended that the NRI should come to India at least once to be presented before the court, even if power of attorney is given.

5. How will I know what is happening with my case?

The progress of your case will be communicated to you in due course, to the client as well as the power of attorney holder. Moreover, you can contact our office anytime over the phone.

6. How much do your services cost?

Fees vary from case to case. The fees payable will be known only after assessing the nature of the case. However, after assessment, once the fees and the terms of payment are fixed, it will be final. There are no hidden charges.
